Happy Friday!! I’m experiencing intense senioritis today — it’s my last day of work before I start my new job next month. To be fair, I don’t really have a lot to do ANYway, but if I did, I’d definitely be having trouble getting motivated. I’ve been with my current company for almost 8 years. Yes, you read that right. EIGHT. YEARS. It’s kind of weird to be leaving, honestly, but I am looking forward to the new adventure.
When I started my job, I was the company’s first hire in the city of Chicago. I helped build out a massive office that, at one time, housed over 1100 employees. I haven’t seen that office since July of 2020, and the company is closing it unceremoniously at the end of this month. Obviously their reasoning is sound — it’s just mind-blowing how much things have changed in the last two years. While I do enjoy working from home, I am definitely feeling nostalgic for my 77 bus and brown/blue line commutes to/from the office. I’m also missing just getting to see the city every day — riding between the buildings, walking over the river, and wandering over to the Thompson Center to get Cheesy Gordita Crunches for lunch.
My new job starts a month from today, and I’ll be hybrid there — in office a few days a week — so it’ll be interesting to see how I readjust back to office life. In the meantime, I’m going to be spending most of the next month packing, but also, getting to sleep in and not have meetings every day, which is pretty exciting (thanks, stored up vacation days!).
We finished The Umbrella Academy this week, which, as usual, was a ton of fun. Tonight, I am INCREDIBLY excited for the last part of Stranger Things. We’ll be binging the last episodes tonight, no question.
I’m interested to see how my internet consumption changes when I’m not required to be on my computer and available all day. For this week, though, I’ve got some goodies to share:
Headline of the Week
This comes from Colin Morris’s blog — honestly, just an all-around, interesting, expletive-laden read. I promise you, you are not ready for the graphs.
I’m Being Personally Attacked
Okay, my notes are from undergrad, but still.
Ope. Well, we’ll see how this goes for the next month.
Throwback Friday
This is a historical relic. Remove this from the mall and put it in the Smithsonian.
TWENTY YEARS?! Am I a historical relic?!
I was so. obsessed. with. this. album. And I’m not ashamed to admit that Avril Lavigne was my style icon for a long while. There was a lot of flat ironing of hair. And ties. Lots of ties. I might have to listen straight through that album this weekend 🤔
Wholesome Fun
I love this. They really should use them in an ad campaign as a throwback to the original dancing iPod commercials.
Randomly Selected Animal Cutie
Hope you have a great long weekend and only shoot fireworks off on the actual holiday instead of all weekend long in my neighborhood (already heard one this morning)! Happy 4th!
