Hiya! Happy Friday!
It’s lovely and sunny and hot here in the Bay Area, and I can’t wait to get out by the pool this afternoon! It’s so nice out, finally! I went out for a walk and to the pool earlier this week and it was fantastic.
I am now officially in my Take Advantage of All Apartment Amenities Before We Move Out of This Expensive Complex Era™. Pool? Yes. Gym? Yes. Convenient street corner porch for food deliveries? Double yes.
It’s almost May and I live in California!! It’s time to be outdoors, baby! (Next week it’s going to be cloudy and rainy and in the 60s but I will deal with that when it is next week!)
It’s been a few weeks now and I’ve decided I’m ready to start pressuring everyone in to watching The Big Door Prize. This show is visually stunning, weirdly gimmicky, and constantly subverts all my expectations. I’m obsessed. The premise is that a weird machine appears in a small midwestern town and anyone who gets inside receives a card with their life’s biggest potential on it. The show is darkly hilarious. It’s really not like anything I’ve ever seen before, and I love it. It’s on AppleTV+. Go check it out so we can discuss!!
And now, on to the goodies from this week!
Karma's on Your Scent Like a Bounty Hunter
I really can’t think of anyone more deserving than this guy:
Enjoy your bonus, bud. Get yourself something nice.
Blue Sky(s) Ahead?
This week, Twitter lost the MTA. Deleted tweets that talked negatively about Space X. Elon battled with users who didn’t want a blue check by gifting them for accounts with over a million followers, and it may come back to haunt him. Community Notes are fact-checking their paying advertisers. Elon’s alt was discovered. And if you’re enjoying the schadenfreude, even a little bit — you might like to check out this tournament bracket for a laugh.
And then…a large number of power users started to shift over to Blue Sky. It’s really similar to Twitter and was also created by Jack Dorsey. Heavy hitting shitposters are making their way over to the platform — but at the moment, they’re still on Twitter, too. I don’t think we’ve reached the point where people are ready to fully move, but there is definitely a seismic shift.
The only downside? The platform isn’t ready to host a lot of users yet, and it’s very slowly rolling it out via a waitlist and private invites. The really bad part of this is that I do not have an invite and am currently on the waitlist, and that is very sad and unfair.
There’s been sort-of a constant search for a Twitter replacement since things started going downhill. Mastodon, Post.News, Spoutible, Hive, even Substack Notes — no one seems to be able to find one single place to go, and folks were spreading out like your high school graduating class going off to college. The last 6 months have basically been this:
But I have hope that Bluesky might actually turn into the place to be.
Fingers crossed I get in soon so I can reserve my handle and start building my following back up (only took over a decade on Twitter, no biggie), and once I do I’ll report back! Also if you are able to grace me with an invite I would be forever in your debt. I want to hang out at the cool kids’ table, please.
Wholesome Fun
This is actually a couple of years old, but was new to me!
This is comedy.
It looks like she’s on the run from some cultish Goop retreat.
BEHOLD, THE POWER OF TMI
Very recently, I was discussing the merits of clear technology and hoping that it might make a comeback. WELL. JUST LOOK WHAT I HAVE WROUGHT.
CLEAR TECH, BABY!!! THE REVIVAL IS UPON US!
The second they release a pair of clear over-ear Beats I’m dipping in to the severance fund. I mean it.
I’m Still Thinking About This
I am so sorry to tell you that I looked this up and it is…true.
On the positive side, this explains why during the winter in Chicago a person could sit down on a brown line seat that feels so cold it might be wet — then reach their destination, realize it’s the latter, and have the worst day of their life. Hypothetically.

That’s it from me this week. Have a great weekend! You can find me by the pool!!
