Happy Friday, y’all! And happy Virgo season to all who celebrate (me, obviously, and all my fellow Virgos out there)!
Shoutout to notallgeminis on Instagram for this. It’s hard enough having moved across the country recently, because I’m still trying to figure out a) which of my favorite snacks from Chicago are actually available here, and b) if they are, where I can get them. Plus, I found a new snack shortly after we arrived and then every single time we went to Target afterward they were sold out. I complained enough that my wonderful husband ordered them from another Target in another city. 😈
One thing I’ve started to realize about moving, too, is that I’ve had to spend a lot more time out and about, finding things like the Post Office (I got a PO Box since we didn’t have a permanent address right away). I went by there this week to pick up a package, and while the guy in front of me was taking forever, I got to do a little people watching and needed to share:
A guy (I’m guessing mid-40s) was standing in line holding what looked like either a folded up shirt or a towel. A young girl (20s, probs) asked if she could go ahead of him because she just needed to drop off her package (it already had postage), and he said sure. After a moment, he leaned down and asked her, “Do you mail things often?” which seemed like the wildest attempt at a pick-up line of all time. She replied “Um, yeah? Sometimes?” and then after another few seconds of silence he said, “Well the reason I ask is — I don’t, I’ve never really mailed anything, and I don’t know how to do it.” 😳
So the girl tries to kind of help him a little and points him toward the free packaging, and he ends up grabbing an Express Mail cardboard envelope that’s for like sending documents, and stuffs his t-shirtowel into it. He got up to the desk, explained to the postal worker that he did not know how to do mailing, and the guy gave him the proper priority mail bag and an address label. He looked at the address label and said “so I just put the address on here?” and the postal worker nodded, and he replied, completely shocked, “BY HAND?” 💀 Then he took the t-shirtowel out of the Express Mail envelope and just left it on the desk for the postal worker to put away (rude) and walked off to put everything together.
Y’all. This man did not know how to put something in the mail. Is this normal? Like, I can understand a teenager or maybe someone in their 20s not knowing how because they never had to or their parents have always done it for them — but even still, plenty of them are sending shit out on Depop. I cannot believe this Gen-X’er has never had to mail anything? In his life? (And the Virgo in me is also thinking — this man did not know how to mail anything and did not even look up how to do it so he could prepare before he just showed up at the damn Post Office? Someone get this guy in touch with Nathan Fielder so he can rehearse!!) Am I being judgmental? Please tell me if you know how to mail something at the Post Office.
And now, on to the internet content:
I’m Being Personally Attacked
Every week, the internet comes for me. And yet every week, I’m back for more.
This, except it’s also my 20s. Will it be my 30s too? Only time will tell.
I was a teenage nerdbag, baby.

Writers, What’s Wrong With Us?
Could this also have gone under the “I’m Being Personally Attacked” section? Yes.
A writer’s work is never done. Except it has to be, because at some point, we have to put it out into the world for other people to read. Or not, I mean — I have plenty of work I’ve kept to myself — but for the fun part, the connection, we have to find a point when we feel like things are complete. It is very hard.
Speaking of which…I finished something!
