Happy Friday, friends!
We’re finally back from vacation! I think I actually spent more time outside in nature than I have in months! Maybe years, even! Don’t judge!
As you already know, we spent most of the day Thursday driving up to Eugene, and Friday we made it to Portland. Once we arrived, we checked in to the hotel and went straight to Powell’s Books, which was a short walk away.
I honestly think I could have moved in there? Partially because it’s awesome, but also because that feels like the only way to see every book. And there are SO. MANY. BOOKS. I picked up a couple of things, including A Woman First: First Woman: A Memoir, by Selina Meyer (yes, that’s Julia Louis-Dreyfus’s fictional character from Veep) because it looked hilarious. I can’t wait to check it out1!
Saturday, we went to the Portland Saturday Market, where we shopped lots of local artists, then drove out to the International Rose Test Garden and Japanese Garden.
Both were amazingly gorgeous!
It was cloudy out, so it wasn’t too hot. Both places were a little more crowded than we would have liked, but it was a summer Saturday, so what can ya do?
Sunday morning, we had breakfast and grabbed some hiking gear at REI before heading back down to Eugene for the night. Then Monday, we got up bright and early and drove to Crater Lake. (On the way, we passed Odell Lake, which brought back some memories — did anyone else ever play this educational game in school??)
At Crater Lake, we hiked up to the Watchman’s Overlook and cruised about 3/4 of the way around to all of the viewing spots (a portion of the road was closed, or we’d have gone all the way around).
Crater Lake is…one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen. Ever. Just…incredible.
We stayed in Klamath Falls for the night, and Tuesday we drove about 6 hours home and arrived just in time to order Mexican food and watch the last of The Witcher (really glad they made us wait for the rest of the episodes, which are just a gigantic cliffhanger leading up to…Liam Hemsworth, I guess? Ugh).
Most of this week has just been resting/recovering from the trip, getting through all of my emails (mostly other newsletters and ads from Aerie) and finishing up Love Island (this season weirdly ended with everyone as boyfriend/girlfriend and very confusing winners).
I have spent some time online this week but not much — so you can expect another shortie while I get back into things2!
Zuck vs. Musk
The Billionaire Boys™ are at it again, giving more “will they/won’t they” than Ross and Rachel.
Negotiate a peace. Or negotiate a time and place?
Okay ⚔️GLADIATOR ⚔️.
I still do not believe this will ever happen, but I truly hope they prove me wrong.
As I've said before, we deserve this. The world is a cold, hard place where rich tech boys have way more power than they should and as a result have slowly damaged our economy to the point that every business is hell-bent on unending growth and exponential profit while they enshittify all the platforms and experiences.
Let them do punches at/on each other for our entertainment, at least.
Not holding my breath either, Zuck. But also, holding my breath.
Blue Skies Ahead
GREAT NEWS! Thanks to the gracious invitation provided by a friend, I am now on Bluesky! So, if you’re there — come find me!
This is a very exciting development. I’m slowly starting to find the people I follow on Twitter who have made their way over, and am hoping to finish getting situated over there soon.
At least it feels like there might actually be a place to go when Twitter finally becomes too much of a pain in the ass to use or everyone I like fully leaves.
Threads is okay, but it’s not quite the vibe (Yet? Maybe? We’ll see.). I’m still trying to get my footing among the million social media apps out there now that my main source of INTERNET is becoming something else entirely. What’s your fave, or are you doing things in real life like looking at pretty flowers? If it’s the second one, don’t tell me.
I Am Extremely Invested In This
🚨 Important research alert!! 🚨 This amateur scientist did some digging to try and determine just where the singer of “Hey There Delilah” is actually singing from. Yes, Delilah is in New York City, but where might our singer be in a thousand-mile walkable radius??
Randomly Selected Animal Cutie
I think we should all cut Taco some slack because this is also how I would react if someone stomped on the leftover pizza I found on the ground. Personally, I believe he should have this if he wants it. Finder’s keepers! 5 million seconds rule!
That’s it from me this week! I’m off to chill some more and enjoy sleeping in my own bed and not a lumpy hotel nightmare. Also, send more good vibes to the WGA, as they’re back at the table with the AMPTP again today. See you next week!

Add it to my giant TBR pile.
Sitting at my computer and being on my phone all day 😬
